Mr Mark Evans | Senior Head Instructor

Mr Mark Evans, Senior Head Instructor

When my son, Alex, was 9, I looked for a martial art that would help to increase his confidence and, should a fight take place he would know how to defend himself. I liked the philosophy and holistic approach of CKD and joined as well - very quickly finding that the mix of proper stretching, defence and attack techniques and exercises were good for my health by releasing stress and were interesting and challenging.

I had never been involved in a martial art before and certainly didn't expect to find myself, at 51, becoming a Second Dan Black Belt. Alex is now 15, is also a Second Dan and he’s nominated CKD as part of his Duke of Edinburgh programme. Becoming a Head Instructor was another step in building my knowledge of CKD techniques and the way in which it can help all types of people at any age to increase their flexibility and reflexes.

With CKD, there's always something new to learn and ways to improve your techniques and reflexes. Plus I've made great friends and we have a lot of fun!

Mr Steve Sexton | Head Instructor

Mr Steve Sexton, Head Instructor

I joined Tipson CKD in August 2006. I originally joined to help me lose weight, stay fit and gain flexibility, but I have been given so much more. Mr Tipson and the whole team are inspirational; my training is made easy as CKD breaks down each technique and teaches your body how to move and to become stronger.

I am proud to say that I am now a black-belt but even prouder to say that I have met some amazing people and have made some great friends. My daughter is 10 years old and is also a black-belt and a team leader at Tipson CKD.

There is no other form of martial arts or fitness that gives you so much as Choi Kwang Do does. I hope you come along to a class soon and experience it for yourself.

Mrs Margo Tipson | Assistant Instructor

Mrs Margo Tipson, Assistant Instructor

With my husband, son, daughter and son-in-law all black belts in Choi Kwang Do, it was inevitable that one day I, too, would be heading down that route.

I'd always been a bit nervous of joining - worried that I would be the ‘newbie’ and everyone would be watching. Other than playing netball at school, sports have never been my thing. So when I heard that some other women were starting a class together, I jumped at the chance to be included. I now realise that I shouldn't have been concerned. The atmosphere at Tipson CKD is welcoming, supportive and encouraging.

Becoming a part of the Choi Kwang Do family has allowed me to get fitter, lose weight and make new friends. My only regret is that I didn't start sooner.

Mr James Ball | Assistant Instructor

Mr James Ball, Assistant Instructor

After a long break from previous training in traditional martial arts I decided to start again. I found Tipson Choi Kwang Do Martial Arts Academy on the internet after looking for a suitable club and was taken by the description 'modern martial art'. After my first class I was hooked, the friendly atmosphere and fluid movements made me want to learn more.

When I was invited to become an Assistant Instructor I jumped at the chance and am now able to help and see people progress and achieve their goals. Choi Kwang Do has given me many mental and health benefits, I am sure it can do the same for you.

Mr Anthony Plant | Assistant Instructor

Anthony Plant, Assistant Instructor

I started training in martial arts at the age of 6 and have many of years of experience in training, competing, and teaching. I started training in 'Choi Kwang Do' at the Epsom CKD in June 2010 at the age of 53. I was invited to become an assistant instructor in December that year; it was a great opportunity to help others achieve their goals so I gladly accepted the roll.

I now train and teach in a non-threatening environment at the Tipson CKD Academy, under the inspirational Mr Alan Tipson and his team. At the academy there is an emphasis on personal development rather than competition. Classes are always fun, and there is something for every one of all ages.

Miss Sylwia Grabczak | Assistant Instructor

My name is Sylwia, and I'm from Poland. I have been training at Tipson Choi Kwang Do Martial Arts Academy since October 2010 and I love it. It is a great way to deal with stress and relax after work. Choi kwang Do also helps me with my health and fitness and is a fantasic oportunity to lose weight.

As an Assistant Instructor I can help teach the children and adults, which I enjoy and have a lot of fun.

Mr Ross Chapman | STORM

Mr Ross Chapman, STORM

Hi, I'm Ross and I'm 13. I've been doing CKD for 6 years now, and have benefited both physically and personally from doing it. Since joining, I've found that I have a lot more strength, flexibility and more confidence. I am a 2nd dan black belt, and am working towards getting my 3rd dan.

I am a STORM instructor, which means that I teach the younger children and, on a few occasions, the adults on lower belts. It's really fun. I've learnt some great skills and met some great people!

I love training as well as teaching, and I would recommend CKD to anyone!

Mr Ben Haynes | Team Leader

I love Choi Kwang Do because you get new tags or belts.

Mr Tipson is a 4th degree black belt, so he is a very good instructor. When you become an instructor you can become a team leader, which means you can help students with lower belts. Age 8 black belt orange tag.

Mr Joseph Haynes | Team Leader

I enjoy Choi Kwang Do because the kicks and punches are really cool.

I am a black belt orange tag and a team leader. I have been doing it for 4 years and have lots of fun. When the new dojang was opened a film star called Silvio Simac came, he is a 5th degree black belt. Choi Kwang Do is one of my favourite sports.
